First of all: I'm a first time participant and I'm stupid excited to be joining this year. I can't wait to see what you come up with for me. What I like most of all in fanfiction is to read stories that people had fun with and found exciting themselves, so take whatever you can use from my ramblings below, and then do your own thing and have fun. Oh, and I'm an ESL, but hopefully it doesn't show too much :)
I love showing not telling. I'm not much into graphic sex if it doesn't play into a plot. I do love me a little bit of angst, but it's not at all necessary for me to enjoy a fic. I love detail and realism (even in sci-fi and magic realism fandoms *g*). I love to hear about the characters quirks and secrets. I love to read backstories to canon. I love genderbending. Girly boys and boyish girls, and people not being gender-stereotypical in general makes me happy :) I looove first-times :D I'm a big fan of the five-times structure, as well.
Squicks: I have a hard time with non-con and schmoop, which I guess is pretty much at opposite ends of the scale :) Other than that, I'm easy. Maybe not tentacle!fic, but wingfic, mpreg, and other crazy stuff I can be persuaded to (and quite easily *g*).
I guess that's kind of the general stuff...
So, two of my requested fandoms were small enough that anything, anything will make me happy. If you dress them up in tutus and make them dance on the coffee table, I'll still be happy, because there'll be fic *g*
For my other two fandoms, I can say a couple of things.
Love & Rockets: Man, I love this comic and it's wacky universe! I love everything about it, so whatever you choose to write about, you can't go wrong. Some of what I love most about it is it's crazy plotlines, and how it manages to combine a wide range of topics and styles, as well as emotions. The other thing I love about it is its strong and distinctively characterised female characters. Maggie, Hopey, Penny Century, Izzy, Danita and Rena are some of my favourites. I really like Hoppers and the social realism tied with it, but I equally love Maggie's space-mechanic adventures, so you can go either way or both, whatever tickles your fancy.
Enemy Mine: I saw this movie as a child and was endlessly fascinated with it, without knowing why. That was before realising that gender-bending was going to be a general theme for me in years to come :) The movie has its weak points, but I love what's at the core of it: Jeriba Shigan and Davidges alieness to one another, and them being stuck with each other like Crusoes and forced to make things work. I'd like to se the masculine Davidge maybe being at first disgusted or unsettled by, and then coming to terms with, Jerry's dual gender, and maybe being a little bit intrigued by it. Tenderness is good, sexual tension or awareness is good, but I think plain old sex would befuddle me more than anything *g*
Thank you for participating and -
Happy writing!
